She & The!

This morning after taking a shower and washing my white hair I decided to check my e-mail. Our dear friend, Steve Pietzsch sent me this hilarious picture and I want to share it with y'all. My reply to Steve was "....I love this and just think—this could be me riding around with Little Debbie driving it!" So I really do wish it was mine.

The next e-mail I checked while I was still laughing was from our dear friend Ronnie Namour. Ronnie is the fabulous writer that writes a weekly music scene column for The Island Moon newspaper, in Port A. And Ronnie is also in love with our dear friend Tracy Weatherall.

I love this artwork. I also love our good friend Joe King Carrasco and his fabulous music and also because he was a big-time supporter of our rescue ranch. And Tony and I love Giggity's too. So, I wrote Ronnie, "I wish Tony and I could be there for the event/invasion!" This is the advertisement Ronnie sent to me:

Then I burst out laughing at my dear friend Nancy's attachment that she sent to me. FYI: Nancy is our dear friend that lives in Chicago with her adoring, beautiful cat, Theodora. She & The are also into aliens like I am and I wish I had a magnet with all of these Bobs on it.

Tony and I have to go to Kerrville today to run a few errands and we plan to drop by Wolfmueller's Books for a fun visit. And when we get back to Big Foot Ranch I plan to go to The Last Resort and practice podcasting with my new Blue Yeti. So please wish me luck.

Y'all have a great (day) evening and keep on laughing!

Congratulations To Action Magazine's 40th Anniversary! We Love Y'all!

Today has been great, but it was uneventful due to drizzling or misting rain, so I spent most of my day inside The Bunkhouse, my pretty, pink writing cabin, having a blast writing on my 3rd hilarious novella.

Tomorrow, Kinky, Tony and I will be at the famous Texas Pride BBQ, in Adkins, Texas celebrating Action Magazine's 40th Anniversary with all of the gate's proceeds benefiting our rescue ranch, thanks to the kindness of Sam Kindrick, Roy Holley at KKYX, Texas Pride BBQ and all of the fabulous musicians that will be performing tomorrow.

It is going to be a total blast and I can't wait to see and hear all of our musician friends: Augie Meyers, Johnny Bush, Johnny Rodriguez, Joe King Carrasco, Darryl McCall, etc. If you're in the vicinity, please drop by, because it is going to be so much fun with totally delicious food and the tickets are only $10.00 per person to see the show. Congratulations to Action Magazine's 40th Anniversary! We love y'all and that's about it for tonight. Action Magazine Rules And So Do Dogs!

Y'all have a great evening!

Three-Ringed Circus!

Today has been one fun and exciting day for us, because everything seemed to happen around the same time—1:00.

First off, we knew in advance that Sherry and Katie were bringing Beau Bridges, the 2 1/2 month old Blue Heeler, that they had rescued near College Station, to us so we could adopt him out and that Tucker, the brother of Joe King Carrasco and also a good friend of Rick, the famous Friendly Lighthouse Keeper, would also be arriving around 12:45, with his friends, to visit with Kinky and us, but what we didn't know was—who was going to get here first.

When our dogs outside started barking Tony and I went outside to go greet Sherry and Katie or Tucker and his friends, but instead we greeted Berni, a very nice, friendly woman and her ten-year-old son, Alex.

After howdies and handshakes Berni told us that they had come out, from Kerrville, to look at our dogs, because she wanted Alex to have a dog that he could play Frisbee with, etc., so we took them on a tour to meet all of our dogs and while we were walking around, I told Berni about Beau Bridges coming in, any minute, but she wasn't sure they were ready to deal with a puppy.

When they met Harley, he turned on his charm with them and was close to stealing their hearts, which thrilled us, when Sherry, Katie and Beau Bridges pulled up, so Tone went to greet the friendly, dog rescuers and Beau.

While T. visited with the women and Beau Bridges, in their car, Alex and Berni talked to me about Harley, when Tucker and his friends arrived, so it was sort of like a fun, three-ringed circus going on out here. And within twenty minutes, Bernie and Alex had adopted Harley, Tony had adopted Beau Bridges-Simons and I was over at the Lodge with Kinky, visiting with Tucker and his nice friends and Kinky was delighted about Harley getting adopted and Tony adopting B.B.-S. Here's a picture of Harley, fixin' to go home with his new family.

Around 3:00, after eating a late lunch, which wasn't very tasty, because I didn't have all of the ingredients needed for the recipe, I sat in Outer Space playing my guitar, while Tony and our fur-family played with one super smart puppy, in our front yard. And here are a few pictures that I took of our new family member, after my fingers were killing me from pickin' and grinnin' too much.

And that is about it for tonight, because I am going to go play with Beau Bridges until his sharp puppy teeth are killing my fingers.

Y'all have a great evening!

Voices!

Today has been great. This morning when the Fab 4, June, Ellen, Eileen and Lisa, arrived to walk our dogs, my day brightened, because these fabulous women are four of the funniest people that I know. A few seconds after they arrived they had Tony and me laughing.

After they had walked our dogs and Ellen had trimmed Maggie's nails for us, we had a fun visit with them, under a shade tree by Rufus and Roxanne's pen. During our visit Eileen told us that her sister Dean is coming to see her on Thursday and she is going to bring Dean out here next Friday, because all of us can't wait to meet her.

When we asked Eileen to tell us a little more about her sister, because all we knew was that Dean had gotten married high up in the sky, in a hot air balloon. "Y'all are going to love her," Eileen said. "I have an hilarious story to tell about Dean, involving a pony, a monkey and her ex-husband, but I am not going to tell it, because she tells it so much better."

I never quit laughing for twenty minutes, listening to their hilarious tales and when it was time for them to head to Medina to eat lunch at the Highway 16 Cafe, they invited us to join them and we did after I went up to the trailer and loaned June the hilarious horror movie, "The Being," starring Kent, Ruthie and Kinky.

Before Tone and I sat down at their table I pulled out my little Sony digital recorder and placed it on our table, "I'm going to record lunch with y'all, to help me remember who said what," I said, as they started laughing.

During lunch, because we were sitting at the only table in the cafe, that constantly roared with laughter, Tony's brother Sam, who was sitting at the table, right next to us, with his family and friends, jokingly half-hollered, "Nancy, please cheer up," because I was laughing so hard and that made everyone laugh even louder.

And after lunch, as I stood in line, waiting to pay for T.'s and my lunch I started hearing voices talking nearby, to the left of me, but no one was left of me—the booths and tables were empty. As I tried to hear what the voices were saying, I asked the Fab 4, "Can y'all hear those voices coming from over there, but no one is over there?  It sounds kind of like a radio or something and..." Then they heard the voices, too and that's when we suddenly realized the voices were our voices, coming from inside my purse, that was hanging off my left shoulder—my little digital recorded some how had turned itself on and was playing back our hilarious lunch conversation and we started laughing and they teased me all of the way to Trigger.

When we got home I went over to visit with Kinky. "Nance, I've got the dates for two upcoming Bonefits for the rescue ranch at Sean's place, called "The Springs" Music Hall, in Salado, Texas. The first one will be "A Night With B. J. Thomas," with me being the host on Saturday, November 26th and the second one will be "Kinky & Friends," on December 17th..." And to say the least—Tony and I are thrilled about it. So please note, as the dates, for the benefits grow closer, I will have more information about the Bonefits and the price of the tickets on our web site: utopiarescue.com and on my blog.

I also want to let everyone know that our good friend, Kimberley Galusha has contacted me to let us know that Joe King Carrasco will be performing tomorrow night in Marfa, Texas at the "Marfa Lights Festival" at 8:00 to benefit our Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch! Thank you, Joe King Carrasco—We love You and Kimberley and we wish that we could be there to enjoy his fabulous music!

My last good news is Marguerite called me early this evening to tell me that Enzo is doing fine, so far and he was sleeping by her feet, as we chatted. She said that he had met her cats, dogs and parrot and they liked him and he liked them and was loving the book, The Art of Racing In Rain and has read about a third of it! And here is a picture that Marguerite sent to me tonight of Enzo sleeping on the cool tile floor.

Y'all have a great evening and please keep praying for rain for us and keep your fingers crossed that Enzo has hopefully finally found his loving forever home!

Joe King Carrasco Really Rocks For Our Dogs!

Today has been great. This morning after Tony had finished his chores and I had caught up somewhat with  paperwork, we went over to the Lodge to see Kinky and to meet the German Shepherd that his friend had rescued, but could not keep.

When we arrived Kinky, Floyd and Dylan were standing outside the kitchen door watching The Friedmans interacting with the beautiful German Shepherd. "Floyd had rescued him off the streets in Houston and named him Hugo, as in you-go back home, but I think we should name him something else," Kinky said. After Dylan, Tony and I agreed that he should be renamed, Kinky says, "Let's name him Enzo Swift." After we had all agreed that we liked that name and loved the book The Art of Racing In The Rain and even though we already have an Enzo Swift at the rescue ranch we named him Enzo Swift #2.

Then we talked about Enzo #2 staying temporarily with Kinky because we are at capacity at the rescue ranch right now because of the sweet mama dog and her two pups that came in on Thursday while we were on vacation. After I told them about a friend of ours who loves German Shepherds and might consider adopting him we went home and called her. Then I grabbed my camera and went back over to the Lodge to take a few pictures of Enzo #2 and to tell Kinky that Kim was interested, but could not meet him until tomorrow after she gets off work and that her daughter might also be interested in adopting him, too. So, please keep your fingers crossed for him and in case he doesn't get a forever home tomorrow if you know someone who might be interested in adopting this great dog please ask them to call the rescue ranch.

Now for some exciting news. My friend Kim Galusha has just announced that she and our mutual friend Joe King Carrasco wants to help our rescue ranch again and they have just released the CD Joe King Carrasco - en la Ruta Maya "Concierto! Para Los Perros" which was recorded live at Ruta Maya - Austin, Texas - June 6, 2008. This benefit concert raised money to help our Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch in our work of rescuing homeless and abused dogs and finding them loving safe homes. The purchase of this CD is to continue to put money back into our efforts to make the lives of these precious animals better. 50% of all U.S. sales in 2011 will go to Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch and 50% of Mexico sales will go to the Puerto Vallarta SPCA! We thank you and we love Kim and Joe King Carrasco for their continued support!

They sent us some CDs and Tony and I cannot quit playing it on our iPods. If y'all want to help our rescue ranch and enjoy some great music please check out his website: joekingcarrasco.com and please purchase this CD, because I know that it will help us help our dogs and that you will enjoy his music as much as we do. I love the CD's artwork too.

Tonight as I finish writing this I want to be the very first to wish our dear friend Karen Cares a Happy Birthday tomorrow and just say, "Joe King Carrasco Really Rocks For Our Dogs!"

Y'all have a great evening!

On The Goode Ship!

Tony and I had a blast on our thirty-one-hour vacation to Port Aransas. We left here at seven o'clock in the morning with Frank babysitting the rescue ranch until Ben arrived from Austin.

Our drive down there was pretty weird though. We ate breakfast in Pleasanton and it took us over an hour because of the waitress. We waited five minutes to get our menus, then four minutes to get our iced teas, twenty-two minutes until she put our plates down on our table and three minutes before she brought us our aluminum ware so we could eat our cooled eggs, bacon and toast. And the whole time we were in the establishment—several men kept coming in the front door, in five minute intervals, and go into the Office and close the door behind them and then, in less than a minute, they would come back out and leave the restaurant real quickly. I think it had something to do with illegal drugs or gambling, but who knows.

Further on down the road, on Highway 37, when we were close to the Poth exit ramp the strangest thing happened to us—we got zapped! I don't know if it was from a UFO or a microwave, but it freaked us out, because the radio and my iPod that was connected to it, stopped playing for a couple of seconds, when it hit us with a nanosecond bright flash and then the radio and iPod lit back up and started playing my favorite music.

"What the heck was that?" I asked Tony. "What just happened?"

"I don't know. It didn't affect the engine."

"It happened right before the Poth exit." I said, as Tony began chuckling. "Why are you laughing? That was scary, Tone."

"I know. Nance. But it's pronounced Poth—like both. Not Poth—like Goth." So we argued about the correct pronunciation until I spotted a tall, gigantic, iron bridge sitting way off, in the middle of a pasture with cows, and the sign on it read: "Bridge For Sale" with a phone number and we laughed about it and our weird trip, all of the way to Port Aransas.

While we waited on the ferry to take us to Port A., I noticed that every ferry was named after a person. "I wonder what ferry we're on?" I said, as I leaned to find the name and then I started laughing. "Tony, we're on the Goode ferry! How cool is that?" Then I grabbed my camera and snapped this picture to prove that a good ferry took us to Port A.

As Tony drove us to the What-A-Burger parking lot, so we could meet up with our friends Denise and Mark, I called Rick to let him know that we had arrived and would meet him at the What-A-Burger. A few minutes later Rick pulled up on his pretty Triumph motorcycle. "Nance, you're in the Dairy Queen parking lot," Rick teased, "not What-A-Burger's."

After introducing our friends to Rick, he called Leisa to tell her we had arrived, but she had a couple of things to do before she could meet up with us and go over to the island, so Rick suggested that we meet her at a bar and drink a beer while we waited for her. So, to T.'s surprise—I made several clumsy attempts and then finally climbed onto the back of Rick's Triumph and he and I took off, followed closely by Tony and Denise and Mark.

Before we had finished drinking a cold beer out on the patio deck, Leisa showed up with Squirt, her two-times-in-a-row winner of being "The Fastest Dog In Port Aransas." After howdies and hugs we took off and island hopped over to the lighthouse island where Rick lives and is known as the, "The Friendly Lighthouse Keeper."

OMG! We had the best time on the island. After we had unpacked our bags and put up our groceries the party began. We went out on the front porch and started visiting and filled the air with laughter as we snacked on some delicious appetizers that Denise and Mark had brought along for this special occasion. And because of the fun time that I was having, I laughed so much—I had wished that I had brought along Mari's pink-dyed sheepskin to sit on because my back was starting to ache.

As we sat in the comfortable Adirondack chairs on the front porch, looking out towards the sea and watching the many colorful birds flying overhead—another weird thing happened. A tugboat pushing two huge barges towards Port A. started drifting closer and closer to the island that we were on. "I bet that tugboat is going to get stuck in shallow waters if it gets much closer," I remarked, and as soon as Rick had agreed with me and explained to us that it had intentionally gotten stuck so it could make a shift change—it got stuck and quit moving just as I had predicted and then we watched as they lowered a small boat and some men got into it and took off for Port A.

Around six-forty Rick took off in the boat to go pick up our dear friends Kelly and Pete and their three dogs, in Port Aransas, because they were going to eat dinner with us. When they arrived it was howdies and hugs and then Smilin' Jack raced up the steps and greeted all of us. He is the giant Newfoundland/Lab mix that we had rescued and they had adopted from us in 2010. Then "The Girls" Fiona and Daphne, their precious Bulldogs, climbed up the stairs and greeted everyone and stole the show away from Jack.

After we ate fajitas for dinner Leisa surprised us with a delicious Blackberry cobbler that she had made from scratch and then we went back out on the porch and laughed the night away, as two barges and a tugboat lit up the night sky for us.

The next morning, while we ate breakfast, we figured out that the barges left some time between four and five-thirty in the morning, because I had checked at four and they were still out there, but were gone when Tony got up to go fishing at five-thirty. After Rick and Tony had teased me about being from Fort Worth and mispronouncing Poth we laughed about the bridge for sale and talked about what a fun time we had had on the island. After Denise and I cleaned up the breakfast dishes we packed our bags and then Rick took us to Port Aransas, so we could go home.

Tone and I were thrilled when we boarded the Goode ferry once again, as it took us to shore and our trip home was uneventful, because we did not get zapped and the bridge for sale that we had seen must have been sold because it was gone and we didn't eat at that restaurant.

When we arrived back home safely we had a few unexpected surprises waiting for us—a sweet mama dog and her two, adorable puppies occupying our big puppy pen. Then we drove up to the barn and saw Ben working and after he had told us their story we invited him to come up to the trailer, so we could visit with him and our dear friend Maribeth Couch, who had come in Thursday evening to spend the night and baby-sit our dogs for us until we got back.

After a fun two-hour visit with them we thanked them for letting us go on a thirty-one hour vacation and then we adios-ed them and they went home.

There is so much more to tell about our fun adventure to the coast, but I am so tired that I must call it a night and go to bed. I want to thank our dear friends Rick & Leisa, Denise & Mark and Kelly & Pete for another wonderful time in Port Aransas and Maribeth and Ben for doing a great job and "holding down the fort" for us.

Tomorrow night, I will share some wonderful and exciting news about our dear musician and animal lover friend—Joe King Carrasco. Until then "Goode Night!"

Y'all have a great evening!

Feel Good!

As I begin to write this, Phoebe Snow is singing "Poetry Man," on Bozo, my iPod's Bose docking system. Salty Dog, my Himalayan salt lamp, is glowing and a fake fire is pretending to burn in Old Smokey, our electric, faux wood burning stove and here is a picture that I just took of them. It's cozy and I like that.

Years ago, Tony and I bought Old Smokey, because we love wood burning fireplaces and also because  fire is a four-letter word to people who live in old trailers—they don't mix well.

Johnny Rivers is now singing "Maybelline" and my foot won't quit tapping, next to Thunder's head, who is sound asleep. Now that the mood is set and perfect for me, I am ready to tell you about my incredibly, wonderful day.

This morning I got up real early and did my chores, because I had to walk eight miles with Leslie, because I have fallen way behind on my walking schedule, because of taking so much time off for my dental work, holidays etc.

So far, as of today I have officially walked 1,634 miles since January 1, 2010, which is great, but not good, because I am 36 miles behind and have to make it up this month so I can reach my goal of 1,825 miles walked this year with Leslie.

I figure if I walk eight miles for the next ten days straight—I will be able to accomplish my New Year's resolution easily.

After walking the walk I sat down at the kitchen table with a hot cup of Yerba Mate tea and checked my e-mails. And the one that I got from our friend Kim Galusha literally made my day! Kim wrote that she and Joe King Carrasco, the "King of Tex-Mex Rock & Roll," who did a benefit for our rescue ranch in 2008, at the Ruta Maya in Austin, have put together a fantastic CD of that night's concert, and they want to give 50% of the sells of the CD to Utopia! Talk about two nice people—we love them! And, when I told Kinky about Kim's news, he was as thrilled as we were. Thank you, Kim and Joe King Carrasco!

Well, I didn't think my day could get any better, but it did—real quick—when the snail mail arrived! "There here, Nance. Joni Daniel has sent you some extra copies of Texas Animal Imprints." T. said, as he handed me her stuffed envelope, which I ripped open, because I could not wait to see my very first magazine column that I had written—in PRINT!

"Look, Tony!" I half-hollered, with excitement. "Here it is! OMG! I love the way it looks and look at the beautiful, photo collage that Mary Chavoustie did and they gave you credit for your photos, too!" Tone looked. "I love it. Thanks to Joni, I'm now a "magazine columnist" and you're a "professional photographer" with your photos in a magazine, calendar and books!..."

After I had settled down, I read the magazine from front to cover and I totally enjoyed reading all of the stories—especially the one that my friend Connie Strong wrote about our rescue ranch, titled "Life On This Side Of The Rainbow Bridge." Thank you so much, Connie—Kinky, Tony and I loved it! You are an incredibly talented writer and I teared up when I read your column about us.

When I was done reading, I picked up the phone and called Joni to thank her for sending me the copies, so I could  send them to friends. "Joni, the magazine looks beautiful and I love what Mary did and..." Before ending our conversation I told her that I was going to blog about it tonight and then I thanked her again and said,  "The cover of the magazine is absolutely beautiful and I'm going to plug your magazine, too. It is the least that I can do to thank you."

This is the picture that I took of the cover, but unfortunately Flash Gordon, my flash on my Sony camera, decided it wanted to become a part of the beautiful cover (near the bottom) and I also accidentally chopped off the top part and sides of Texas Animal Imprints—sorry Joni. Please tell Mary Chavoustie that I didn't give it the justice that it was due, but it is still beautiful.

Anyone who would like to buy a subscription to this "feel good" bi-monthly magazine that celebrates animals and nature, please send a check or money order for $12.50 payable to :

I Just Love It!

This afternoon, when Tony and I returned from Kerrville, I turned on my Bose iPod Deck to listen to some music while unpacking my canvas grocery sacks. After that, I checked my e-mail, while listening to Michael Franks singing one of my favorite songs of his, ‘Under the Sun.”

I had twelve e-mails. I scanned them quickly, deleted three spams and then I opened Stacie’s. Stacie is the woman who put together the wonderful slide show for last Fridays benefit. I just have to share her note with y’all.

“Hello Nancy,
The show went great and I will be sending you a copy of the slideshow on disc. You know one thing I noticed was that everyone there, was there for the dogs (and of course good entertainment doesn't hurt either). I say that because it was actually funny, I was over at the Silent Auction table and I bid on about 6 things. I met some wonderful ladies and we started to joke because every time I went back, someone had outbid me. To say the least, it was great when I would look down and a $25 gift certificate was already going for $30, i.e. everything got bid on over the normal amount of what it was worth. I realized, these people are doing this for the dogs!!!!!!!!!!! How fantastic. Of course, I won the one I really, really wanted; A basket with the two books: ‘Whale Season’ & ‘Murder at the Bad Girls Bar & Grill’ & 3 BBQ sauces in it. I can't wait to sit down and read them!

It was a pleasure to make the slideshow & I would love to make a trip up there sometime and meet them. If you ever need anything, feel free to contact me. Thank you for all your help & support. Stacie Chinni”

I am thrilled that Stacie bid the highest and won N.M. Kelby’s care package! And, I can’t wait to see her slideshow of our dogs! Everyone, I hope that you have a great Sunday! I am!

The Bonefit Was A Howling Success!

Tony and I were unable to make it to the Bonefit last night. We really wanted to be there, but unfortunately, we just couldn’t make it. Today I received a note from Kim G. about last night’s benefit that she put on for us. This is what Kim wrote:

“We had a blast last night. Joe King Carrasco talked a lot about Utopia up on stage, and he put on a great performance. The crowd loved him! The slide show ran all night long with the dogs up on the wall and I received many compliments on it. Stacie did a nice job on the slides. I think she is making you a copy.

I don’t have all the numbers together but it looks like about $2000 for you all. I’m hoping that there was enough advertising and networking going on that it will bring you more money and some nice homes for some of the dogs.

I’ll get you the final number soon, Kim”

After reading Kim’s note, I want to thank everyone who attended last nights benefit. I want to also thank the many people and businesses that contributed to the silent auction. And, I want to especially thank these great people for their hard work and generous hearts: Kim Galusha, Joe King Carrasco, Ruta Maya Coffee House and Organic Coffee Importing and staff, and Stacie! Y’all are the cream of the crop! Our ranch cannot thank you enough! We love y’all!

I can’t wait to tell Kinky about this! He should be arriving in Austin anytime now. I know that he will be thrilled!

In The Company of Angels!

This morning, I woke up at 5:30. After feeding the dogs and Lucky, the cat—I sat down at my laptop to get some work done. As the coffee brewed, I sat at the kitchen table, pulling pictures of dogs that we had adopted out, from my iPhoto album, so I could e them up to Stacie, who is working on a slideshow for tomorrow night’s Bonefit at the Ruta Maya, starring our good friend, Joe King Carrasco!

I enjoyed looking at the many pictures of our dogs, that we’ve adopted out, and they brought back memories and smiles. After I had picked out about thirty or so pictures, I resized them and then I e-mailed them up to Stacie, in Austin! And, it took less than 20 minutes for me to do!

At 7:45, I phoned Harley Belew, so I could talk to him, on-air, about our dogs, and to tell him, who was his Pet of the Week. Harley’s Pet of the Week was Lexi, a beautiful tan and white muttigree, about 3 years old and is very well trained. She is a great dog and would be a great companion for someone who likes to jog! Hopefully, she will be adopted soon. Before the interview was over, Harley let me plug tomorrow nights Bonefit in Austin!

After the interview, I started preparing breakfast, knowing that Tony would be home soon. The breakfast was tasty, and after cleaning up the kitchen— I returned a few phone calls to people wanting to bring their dogs to us, because they could no longer keep them—for various reasons.

At 9:20, the phone rang. I decided to let the machine take the call, because ‘Kokomo’ by the Beach Boys was playing on my iPod Deck, and I didn’t want to pause it. “Hello, Nancy? This is Tom. Nicki and I and her parents, Nancy and David are leaving Austin...”

“Hi Tom!” I said, to my nephew. “Are y’all coming down for the Kerrville Folk Festival?”

“Yep,” Tom replied. “Would it be okay for me to bring them out today to meet y’all and to see the rescue ranch? We were thinking of driving there first and then going over to the festival.”

“Good grief, Tom,” I said. “I would love for y’all to come see us! You’re not going to believe how cool Outer Space is!”

“Hmm,” Tom hummed. “What’s Outer Space?” And, then he sorta laughed.

“Tom, I named the screened in porch, that you and Ronnie built—Outer Space!” I explained. “And, you are going to be blown away!” (Little did he know the wind was gusting up to 25 miles per hour outside.)

“Oh, okay, Nance, we should be there in a couple of hours. Bye.”

As soon as that call ended—Maribeth arrived, and twenty minutes later—Ben arrived from Austin!

Around 11:00, Tom’s party of four arrived! Tom’s girlfriend, Nicki gave me a hug, as did Tom and then Nicki’s parents. Then I invited everyone into Outer Space. As they followed me up the porch steps, I bragged to them about Tom being a talented carpenter, and they agreed with me and were impressed with his and Ronnie’s work.

Unfortunately, we had a pretty short visit, but it was a lot of fun, and there was a lot of laughter! They needed to leave, because they were anxious to get to the festival to set up their camping gear. But fortunately, before leaving, they told us that they would be coming back tomorrow, for a tour and a longer visit! And, that made my day! I thought.

Well, around 4:35, the dogs outside started barking! Someone was driving onto the ranch! I hoped that it was Tom, Nicki, Nancy and David, but unfortunately it wasn’t. Instead, it was a FedEx delivery truck, so Tony left Outer Space, to go meet up with the driver. As Ben and I watched from Outer Space, Tony signed for the package, and then headed back our way—wearing a smile and giving us a thumbs up!

When he returned to Outer Space, he said, “Nance, it’s for you—from N.M. Kelby. You want me to open it up for you?”

“Yes, please,” I said. “I’ll bet that it is the ‘Bad Girls Bar & Grill’ BBQ sauce, that I had ordered!

“Yes,” Tony said. “And no.”

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Yes, it is the BBQ sauce, six bottles, and two copies of her book— ‘In The Company of Angels!’” Then Tony handed me the books! “Ben, Nicole is so sweet. She wouldn’t let me pay for the BBQ sauce. So, I am going to send her a brick of y’all’s ‘Miles of Chocolate’ as soon as her book tour is over.” Ben smiled, and nodded his head. “I am nearly finished reading, ‘“Murder at the Bad Girls Bar & Grill’ and it is a fantastic read—just like ‘Whale Season!”’

“Can I read them, when y’all are through?” Ben asked.

“Of course, you can, Ben,” I said. “They are so good! I can’t wait for you to read them!”

“I’m nearly finished with ‘Whale Season,’” Tony said. “And, you’ll like it.”

When the temperature in Outer Space reached ninety-six degrees, Ben decided it was time to leave, so he went over to the Lodge, to see his dogs, Penny and Valerie, and Tony and I came inside the trailer to—escape the heat.

P.S. Thank you, Tom, Nicki, Nancy, David and Nicole—y’all just made my day! I love it!

Now We're Talkin' Super Bonefit!

Guess what? I have some more exciting news to tell y’all about, the June 6th Bonefit at Ruta Maya with Joe King Carrasco! In fact, I haven’t even told Kim G., yet. I want to surprise her and y’all, too, at the same time!

Well, I am sure that everyone reading my blog, knows who N. M. Kelby is, if not, you need to stop reading this right now, so you can trot down to the nearest bookstore to buy everyone of her books! Then when you get home, get on your computer, and go to this address: nmkelby.com and check it out! Her sight is great, and you’re gonna love it! I promise!

I think Nicole, is one of the best authors on this side of the planet, as well as the other side, too! I think it is way too cool that Dwight Yoakam bought the movie rights to her last book, "Whale Season," and she’s been busy working on the movie version with him! And, did you know that N. M. Kelby is the first critically acclaimed author to have ever had a BBQ sauce—as a companion for her latest book—"Murder At The Bad Girls Bar And Grill."

Okay, so now everyone knows who N. M. Kelby is, and I want to thank y’all for buying her books, and checking out her web site. Now, I can continue my exciting story, and tell you the great news!

My good friend, Fay, up in Toronto, who adopted Kris Kristofferson from us, and introduced N. M. and me to each other—via the internet—a while back, and from time to time we have sent each other notes.

Well, this morning I received an e-mail from Nicole, telling me that she wants to send down one of her books, along with a jar of “Bad Girls Bar and Grill BBQ Sauce” to add to the auction items for the June 6th Bonefit! And get this— she is also sending me a copy of her book, and a jar of BBQ sauce, too! I can’t wait! I am so excited! And, I’ll guarantee you this, her book and that jar of BBQ sauce will definitely be two of the high dollar items! Thank you so much, Nicole, and thank you Fay—for introducing us, and thank you Kim for putting on this Bonefit for us!

I just called Kinky, to tell him the great news, and he said to tell Nicole, Fay and Kim, “Thank you, Very Much! And he sends y’all—his best!”

As soon as I get this blog posted, I am sending Kim G. an e-mail asking her to please check out today’s post. When Super Woman reads about this—I’m sure it will make this the best Memorial Day that Kim has ever had!

And, now for the rest of the story. Yesterday, our good friend, the professional photographer, Brian Kanof, came out to the ranch, with his better half, Jackie, and his daughter Lauren, so he could take some photographs. After he had finished his shoot, Tony challenged him to shoot a game of pool.

Before Tony racked up the balls, I asked Brian, “What is your nickname? Tony’s The Medina Bulldog.”

“I don’t have one, but I guess it could be the nickname, that Kinky gave to me. A*** from El Paso.” We laughed. “No. I think I will use my old CB handle—Texas Western. Yeah, I like that one. I’ll use that one.”

The Texas Western broke up the rack of balls and the three game tournament began. The Texas Western was good, but not as good a pool player as The Medina Bulldog. Twenty minutes passed. Texas Western—1 and The Medina Bulldog—2! Yeah, Tony!

As we were leaving, I asked Brian if I could take a quick picture of him, standing next to his car, and he agreed to let me shoot him—so I did. After that, I took the picture of that rock, that looks like an ugly man’s head, that I put on yesterday’s blog. Have a great day! Here’ssssssssssssss—Brian!

Bonefit, Bonefit—Up In Austin!

This afternoon, I received a very exciting phone call—from our friend, Kim G., who we have now nicknamed, ‘ Super Woman,’ because she is the one who donated the agility equipment to us—a few months back! Today, she called to tell me that the Benefit for us, on June 6th, at 8:30 pm, at the Ruta Maya Coffee House and Organic Coffee Importing, up in Austin, featuring our good friend—the one and truly great—Joe King Carrasco—is going though the roof! The tickets are selling like hot cakes, and the donations being made for the silent auction—are more than awesome! In fact, I got goosebumps when she told me about some of the items that will be auctioned off that night!

Kim asked me if we were going to be able to make the show, and I told her that we would most definitely try to make it, because Tony and I want to be there to give her and Joe King Carrasco great big bear hugs—for helping us out!

I hope that all of y’all can make this benefit show, and I can already guarantee you, right now—it’s going to be one of our best Bonefits, yet! I can’t wait to go!

For more information about this Bonefit, check out: www.myspace.com/utopiabenefitjoeking

Be There Or Be Square! I hope that we will see y’all there! Here’s a poem that I just wrote about it:

Bonefit, Bonefit—up in Austin,
Bonefit, Bonefit—we love Kim!
Bonefit, Bonefit—we gotta go,
Bonefit, Bonefit—to see Carrasco!
Bonefit, Bonefit—at the Ruta Maya,
Bonefit, Bonefit—miss it and you’ll sigh-a!
Bonefit, Bonefit—up in Austin,
Bonefit, Bonefit—it’ll be Awesome!

P.S. I wish everyone a great Memorial Day!
P.S.S Tomorrow, I will tell you about The Medina Bulldog vs. Brian Kanof—The Texas Western!
P.S.S.S. Check out this rock that I found today—I’ve named it, “Stone Age Man!” I can't wait to show it to Kinky!

Thank You Very Much!

This morning has been great! After feeding my six dogs, Mama, Abbie, Thunder, Toto, Little Girl and Hank, and then Lucky, our three-legged cat, I made some coffee, and then went out on our new screened-in deck to enjoy my first cup of coffee for the day.

I just love our new deck, that my incredibly great big brother, Ron and my nephew, Tom— built for us! Decorating it has been a lot of fun for me, and I am nearly done with it, and I will have pictures to share soon.

After breakfast with Tony, I decided to check my e-mails. As always, there were numerous letters and spams, but the last two e-mails, made my day! The first one, was from our great friend Carl. He wrote to tell me that he had to cancel his visit with us because he had some business that needed his attention. At the end of his note, he attached a beautiful picture of a rose in his garden—that he had named—Nancy! Wow, that is too cool!

The second e-mail was from our friend Dr. Kim G., who donated the agility equipment to us, a few months back. Well, she is putting on a dynamite Benefit for us, on June 6th, at 8:30 pm, at the Ruta Maya Coffee House & Organic Coffee Importing, up in Austin, featuring—Joe King Carrasco, who we love! Anyway, Kim wrote to tell us that the web site, promoting the upcoming benefit, was now ready for us to post!

Here is the site for the event: http://www.myspace.com/utopiabenefitjoeking

The site is fantastic! Please check out the site and near the bottom of the page they did the coolest slideshow of our dogs!

Thank you, Carl Naylor, Kim and Joe King Carrasco! We love y’all!

I’m fixing to go to Kerrville to get some paint for our front porch!

P.S. Cindy Lou, I hope your move to Granite Shoals went well!
