La Crosse! or Gibsons!

Friday was great and so was today. Yesterday morning, as planned, our good friend Aaron came over to help us install the brand new front door for our cabin.

Actually, back in June, when Tony and I bought this place the first thing we did to celebrate getting it was to go, to Home Depot, to buy our new front door for The Cabin.

I know that sounds a little weird about getting excited about buying a front door, but I was adamant about it, because the last time I had gone to Ronnie & Nita's Ronderosa Ranch, in Dripping Springs, they had just put in new double-french doors that were double-paned with blinds built inside and I absolutely fell in love with them. So that is why we splurged on our beautiful, metal, front door, which I hope to paint it Glidden's Candy Apple Red, later this week. Here are a few pictures. And please note that the first picture shows our old reddish/orange front door removed and it is outside leaning up against the fence while our white one is waiting to be installed.

After installing the front door, Aaron was helping Tony install a ceiling fan, in the bedroom, while I was in the kitchen trying to figure out how to set-up my new La Crosse Technology Atomic Clock, because our old atomic clock had died during the move. It was due and not a big deal.

Anyway, as soon as Aaron and Tony got the wind spinning around, in the bedroom, Aaron was ready to go home, but before he did he easily set-up my new La Crosse Atomic Clock for me. And I totally love this La Crosse clock.

Yesterday afternoon my dear friend Chet O'Keefe had sent me a note, from Terlingua. He told me that all was good with him and Liz and that he has been very busy writing new songs, recording his music and was playing a lot of gigs and that made me happy. And he had attached this beautiful poster that Liz had designed for Presidio's upcoming Bluebonnet Music Series.

I was thrilled to see that Chet was kicking off this music series, on Friday, the 23rd and it really makes me want to go out there to hear him play. And then when I checked out the other great musicians that will also be performing, later, in the Bluebonnet Music Series, it tempts me to go out there to Terlingua and spend the month of March out there, too. So I guess time will tell if I go.

Today has been great. Late this morning Tony and I went to Kerrville, to help celebrate Gibson's Discount Center's 50th Anniversary and we had a total blast.

As you can see the parking lot was packed full and parked vehicles were lined-up up and down the streets. When we got there a fabulous band was playing to a standing room only crowd, while others were eating, delicious, pulled pork sandwiches, with chips and sodas—and it was all free to the Public.

It was a very festive crowd and in no time flat Tony and I were enjoying the food, tapping our boots to the great music and we also ran into several friends while we were there. And that is about it for tonight, because I plan to do a little reading and then shuffle off to bed.

They Look Good!

Today has been great and so were Friday and Saturday. Friday afternoon after eating a delicious lunch, at Thai Ocha, with our good friends/volunteers, we went to Hastings, because I was on a personal mission, because over the past several months I've had at least five different friends ask me if I had seen the movie Matrix and then tell me that I must watch this movie. Then I discovered that it was not available for streaming on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

So when we went to Hastings I asked the first employee I saw if they had the Matrix. And five minutes later, we had purchased a used, rental copy of the Matrix and it only cost me $3.99. To say the least, I was thrilled about getting it so cheap.

When we got back home, after putting up the groceries, I sat down and watched the Matrix, with Little Debbie sleeping on my lap. I liked the movie, but it was a little too violent for me, because I don't like watching violence.

After watching the movie I called all of my friends that had highly recommended that I watch this movie, as soon as possible, to let them know that I had actually purchased the Matrix and had just watched it. Then I bragged about it only costing me $3.99.

Then later on that evening, at 7:05 to be exact, I decided to surf the television channels and I about fell out of my chair when I saw a channel airing the Matrix and it was only five minutes into the movie. So, I walked down the hallway to Tony's office, and said, "Guess what? The Matrix just started and it is on Channel *&#." Then we both started laughing about me buying it. "Can you believe that?"

This afternoon after we grocery shopped, at the big H-E-B, we went to Gibson's so I could purchase a tortilla press, because since Saturday I have been determined to learn how to make homemade flour tortillas, because we had eaten some delicious fresh, homemade flour tortillas, at the new BBQ place, Williams Creek Trading Company, which is in the Old Timer's parking lot. And this is what I bought.

When we got back home I started mixing the flour with the ingredients to make tortillas and that's when Tony suggested that I stop and Google a YouTube video on how to use a tortilla press. I thought he was kidding me, but he wasn't. "Tony, it looks pretty simple to use. I just raise the top, put a ball of dough, in the middle and then press down." 

"Oh, I see. I hadn't checked it out." Then he wished me good luck with my flour tortilla project and then he grabbed his camera and went outside to greet Karon and the sweet kids that had come over to walk our dogs for us.

I carefully followed all of the directions on how to make flour tortillas and I am proud to announce that my first batch of homemade, flour tortillas were absolutely delicious! I loved them and so did our dogs. And please note that I am also a pro when it comes to using a non-electric, high-tech tortilla press. In fact, I am thinking about making a YouTube video on how to use one of them.

A few hours later, after Karon and the sweet kids had left, Tony came back inside The Cabin. When he asked me how my tortillas had turned out. I pulled out some warmed tortillas, in the oven. "You tell me," I said.

As he buttered a couple, he said, "They look good." Then he took a bite. "Nance, these are delicious! I can't believe that you made them..." And I can't believe that he said that. And that's about it for tonight.

Pink Cadillac!

Today has been great, even though it was a very busy day. This morning, while Tony was in Medina, I washed a load of clothes, vacuumed up the dog hair and had steam-mopped The Cabin's wooden floors and had breakfast ready and waiting when Tony returned home.

I did all of this, because I knew that we had a busy day ahead of us. When it was time to do our morning chores outside, I stayed inside, so I could return several phone calls, before going outside to help Tony. It was a good decision, because Paul called to tell me that he was already on his way to deliver a load of dog food to us. Then my dear friend Ann, who I've known since I was seven-years-old called to discuss a good time for a visit.

Forty minutes later, I was outside, helping Tony finish feeding the rest of the dogs and cleaning up their pens. Paul arrived with a full truck load of free dog food, as I was cleaning up Miranda Lambert's and Blake Shelton's pen. So Tony took off, to go help Paul unload the dog food, while I wound things up.

Thirty minutes later after exchangeing emails with Mari, Tony and I put Daisy, in a crate, so we could drop her off at Hoegemeyer Animal Clinic, for Mari to pick up. Then we jumped inside Buttermilk and took off for Kerrville.

After we had dropped off Daisy, Tony and I went down the road, to Randy's & Lisa's Save Inn Restaurant, to eat a delicious lunch, before Tony's chiropractor appointment, at 1:30.

When we left Dr. Hubble's chiropractic office, Tony's back felt much better, so we decided to run a few more errands, before heading home. Our first stop was at The Cailloux Theater, so we could vote early. Then we went to Wolfmueller Books, to visit with our good friends, Sandy & Jon and for me to pick up 10 copies of The Road to Utopia: How Kinky, Tony & I Saved More Animals Than Noah that Sandy and Jon had ordered for me, so I can turn around and sell them at the upcoming Local Authors Expo, in Boerne, this Saturday.

After a fun visit with Sandy & Jon at their fabulous bookstore, we took off for the Post Office, so I could mail a few letters. Then we went to Gibson's, to buy four, new, replacement wheels for our old wagon, for me to use, when feeding our dogs outside, because carrying around those heavy feed buckets, every morning, makes my joints ache. 

We also purchased another wagon for Tony to use, because with Tony's serious back problems, he doesn't need to be lifting those heavy buckets out of Kermit all of the time and it would be much better for his back, to pull a wagon loaded with several buckets, half full of dog food.

Before leaving Gibson's Tony spotted a jar of Udderly Smooth skin lotion, that we were told is great for dry skin.

When it was time for us to check out, I had another senior moment and it embarrassed me, because I had forgotten to cut a rescue ranch check, to pay for the the wheels and the wagon, so I ended up writing a personal check for everything, knowing that the rescue ranch will reimburse me later. Then we came home. 

When we got back home, I took these pictures of the four wheels that Tony put on the old, green wagon, which I will paint pink tomorrow and have already named The Pink Cadillac and the building of the yellow wagon, that I've named The Yellow Submarine, that Tony will be hauling around, with lighter, half-filled buckets of dog food.

And that is about it for tonight, except I want to wish David the best birthday ever!

P.S. Tony and I love the Udderly Smooth skin cream and we highly recommend it. We plan to buy another jar of it, so we can have his and her Udderly Smooth skin!
