Sweeter Than Honey!

Today has been great. Ten days ago a sweet woman called me to tell me that she and her son and his wife wanted to come out, because they were thinking about adopting sweet Honey. After I told her everything about Honey, I told her that they were welcome to come out anytime, but to please call me first, so we would make sure to have the gate opened for them.

Well, this morning Linda called me, asking me if it would be alright if they came out around 1:30. "Yes! We'll have our gate opened for y'all," I said.

They arrived out here around 1:40 and Tony and I liked them instantly. We showed them Honey and then we walked her down to the creek to let her swim. When we returned Danny asked us if we could show them the rest of our dogs.

And after we gave them a tour, Danny, who owns Ark Plumbing, in Ingram, asked his wife and mom to name their three favorite dogs.

After they had told each other that Lois Lane, Dale Evans and Honey were their favorites, Tony and I excused ourselves, for about ten minutes, so they could talk privately about it.

When we returned they asked us if they could take Dale Evans for a stroll down to the creek, so this time Tony went with them, so I could go up to The Cabin, to cool off and drink some water.

Twenty minutes later, Tony walked inside The Cabin and said, "They want to adopt Dale Evans." And we were absolutely thrilled about them picking Dale, because she, like Lois and Honey, are three of the sweetest dogs we have, at the rescue ranch.

After they signed Dale's adoption papers I asked them if it would be okay for me to take their picture with Dale, so I could post it on my blog tonight.

Before leaving with Dale, they told us that Dale will be an indoor dog and that one of them would always be home with her and their little, old Chi-weenie! So everyone please keep your fingers crossed for Dale that her adoption sticks. And that is about it for tonight, because I plan to spend my evening writing.

Y'all have a great evening!

No-Shows!

Today has been great. This morning, before Tony and I went outside to do our chores, we went over to the Lodge to visit with Kinky and Brian Molnar. I took my computer and that cute, Bandera County Courier newspaper insert, This Is For You, Cousin Nancy !, about Jeremy Clyde, finding a fabulous forever home.

Kinky loved seeing the picture of Jeremy, all curled up and sleeping and he enjoyed reading about Jeremy's good fortune. While we sat around, in Kinky's kitchen, I opened up my computer and told Brian and Kinky about Chet O'Keefe and me playing a pay-back prank on Jeff, The Singing Safety and they thought it was a pretty funny prank.

When I played them the short audio clip of me singing, off-key, with Jeff and ruining his great song—they burst out laughing, as did Tony and I. "That is absolutely hilarious, Nancy," Kinky remarked. "That could go viral!" I agreed with Kink, but I told him that Jeff had not given me permission to release it.

When I told them about the great Ronny Cox House Concert, at Jim and Liz's ranch and confessed to them about me thinking Ronny played the banjo, in that famous Deliverance scene and me getting Ronny to sign my banjo—they burst out laughing, again.

After I cooked us lunch and cleaned up the kitchen, Tony and I jumped inside Buttermilk and took off for Kerrville, to run several errands.

Late this afternoon, while I was baking a peach cobbler for Tony, Karon, from the Medina Children's Home came over to take pictures of Bee Spears, because her sister is thinking about adopting this great eight-year-old dog, that used to live on Willie Nelson's golf course.

While Tony and Karon were outside taking pictures of Bee, Kinky called me. When I told him that I was baking a peach cobbler and asked him if he wanted some of it, his answer was, "Yes. That sounds great, but Tex, Bob, Alan and Colin should be here soon, and Brian Molnar is here, too. Do you have enough for them?"

After I told him, "Yes," Tony and Karon came inside The Cabin, because Karon wanted to show me some pictures that she took, earlier today, of three of Ginger Roger's pups, that are all living in forever homes, across the street from us, at the home. Needless to say, "They were precious and two of them looked just like little Ginger and the other one looked more like a Beagle."

Twenty minutes later, after Karon left, Tony and I ate some peach cobbler, topped off with Blue Bell's delicious Vanilla ice cream. Then we took the ice cream and cobbler over to Kinky's.

When we arrived at the Lodge, Kinky and Brian were there, but Kinky's Aussie friends, Colin and Alan had not yet arrived and Tex and Bob were due to arrive at any time. While we waited on Kink's other friends, we had a fun visit with Brian and Kinky.

I told them about Bee maybe getting adopted and they were thrilled for him. "Kinky," I said. "If Bee gets adopted, I am thinking about adopting his roommate, Dale Evans. She is only about one and a half years old and she is a very sweet dog and she has been through he** and back. Because she isn't very pretty and is still missing some hair, I am afraid that no one will adopt her because of her looks. I know it sounds stupid, but a lot of people only want cute or good-looking dogs. It's a real shame. Brian, when we rescued her, she was in such bad shape and totally hairless, because of mange. Our vets told us that they wanted to keep her for at least a month. She had heart worms, was anemic and had all kinds of problems. And they kept her for over five weeks. She and Bee love each other and I love her, too."

Forty minutes later, Kinky's friends were still no-shows, so Tony and I adios-ed Brian and Kinky and came back home. And that is about it for tonight.

Y'all have a great evening!

Figs For Jalapenos!

Today has been great. After we did our morning chores outside I came inside to check my e-mail and I am so glad that I did, because my dear friend Mari, who we were later meeting for lunch, in Kerrville, had sent me one, asking if we liked figs, because if we did, she wanted to trade us some of her figs for Tony's jalapenos. So, I shot her back an e-mail telling her that we would love to trade figs for jalapenos, then I jumped into the shower to get cleaned up.

Tony and I love Mari and getting to have lunch with her is one of our most favorite things to do and after we have lunch with Mari, I always wish that we could do it more often, because on a scale, from one to ten, with ten being the highest, of "Favorite Things To Do"—she's a twelve.

Before leaving the rescue ranch, Tony quickly handpicked a fresh crop of his jalapenos for Mari and then he loaded up two dog crates, in the back of Buttermilk, then we took off for Kerrville.

Our lunch today with Mari was a total blast. When she arrived two minutes after we got there, she was carrying a large white box and a gigantic, plastic bag filled with the biggest figs that we've ever seen and before she sat down, Mari handed me the heavy box and said, "I have one and I bought this for you, because you love Roy Rogers as much as I do."

When I opened up the white box, I was instantly thrilled at what I saw. It was this beautiful 399 page book, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans: It Was Always The Music, a celebration of Roy and Dale's singing cowboy B-Western era of country-western music, by Eric van Hamersveld, authorized by Dale Evans Rogers, Roy "Dusty" Rogers, Jr., and the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Museum! "Mari, I love this. It is so beautiful. Thank you, so much!" Then our waiter appeared and interrupted me, so he could take our order. (Mari and I ordered the exact same thing from the menu, except she requested Charro beans, instead of the refried beans that I ordered.)

"I knew you would love it, since you have started playing your guitar again, " Mari said. "It has every song, from all of their movies, with the music and lyrics and it is filled with movie pictures that you're going to love and..."

Because Mari is one of the most well informed, intelligent, humorous women that I have ever met, she and I were either talking or laughing non-stop, about dogs, the importance of buying Made In America products, politics, music, The NoMads, figs, jalapenos, West Texas, Terlingua, drivers license, tuna fish from Thailand, etc. and poor Tony hardly ever got to get a word in edgewise. And after two fun-filled hours had passed, Tone finally got to say, "Nance, it's nearly three o'clock and we need to get back to the ranch." Which totally shocked Mari and me, that so much time had passed, because we were having so much fun.

"Tony, will you please carry my book for me, because it is so heavy?" I asked. "And the figs."

While T. was gone to put our giant sack of figs and my newest, favorite book inside Buttermilk and getting Mari's jalapenos for her, Mari wanted me to listen to this great song, No One Kisses Their Horses Anymore. So when Tony joined us, we chuckled as we listened to it, standing in the parking lot. Then we adios-ed each other and left.

Our next stop was just down the street at Hoegemeyer Animal Clinic, to pick up Hank Williams, Sr. and Jackie Kennedy Onassis, so we could bring them home. And Hank, the handsome Yellow Labrador barked, I mean, serenaded us all of the way home.

When we got back to the rescue ranch, I took these pictures of Hank, wearing his temporary lampshade and not knowing what to think about it and cute, little Jackie O.

Early this evening, I went over to the Lodge to visit with Kinky and Marcie and I had a fun, one hour,  really enjoyable visit with them, before coming back home. And that is about it for tonight, because I plan to learn how to play a few Roy & Dale songs on my guitar, until my fingers are killing me and then read my newest, favorite book. "Thank you, Mari! I love my book!  Let's do lunch sooner than later!"

Y'all have a great evening!
