I Saw The Light, Again, And Again And Again!

Oh my gosh! Today has been incredibly great for me, even though my horoscope predicted just the opposite. This morning I overslept, which was not good. In fact, I never even heard my alarm clock go off, one hundred and ninety-three minutes earlier than usual.

I woke up around seven, surrounded in bed, by my dogs and our three-legged cat. Like me, none of them wanted to rise and shine, so I stayed in bed for five minutes counting my blessings, and enjoying their furry company. When I rose, it was more like I twinkled than shined.

After putting my best friends outside, I went to the phone and punched in Kinky's phone number and got his machine. "Kink! It's Nancy. I've overslept, and you need to get up now, if we are going to go do breakfast with our friends at nine! I'll call you back in a few minutes and if you don't answer the phone—then I'm coming over there to wake you up! Bye."

I first fed Mama and Abbie. While they were eating, I punched the redial button on the phone's receiver, and got Kinky's machine. "Wake up, Kinky! Brownie, Chumley, Gooie wake Kinky up!" I half-hollered into the phone, in hopes that the Friedmans would wake him up for me. "Okay, Kinky. I'll be over there in just a few minutes. Bye."

After letting Mamajello and Abbie out in the backyard, I filled the dishes for Hank, Toto, Thunder, and Little Girl, and Luck-a-Luck. As soon as they rushed inside the front door to eat, I put on my pink cowboy boots, grabbed my white K for gov cap, and was literally walking out the front door when the phone rang—it was Kinky. "Good morning, Nance. I'm up. I'll call you back in ten minutes, after I get some coffee in me." Click.

While Kinky was charging-up on caffeine, I quickly showered and then got dressed—then I called him and he answered on the first ring. "Good morning, Nance. I was just fixing to call you..." It was a short conversation. We decided that I would drive over to the Lodge, ride with Kinky, and we would leave the ranch at eight-thirty, so we could meet our friends for breakfast at nine.

At nine o'clock sharp, Kinky and I entered the diner, and found our three friends sitting at a table near the back of the room. After hugs and rehugs and handshakes, there was an immediate light show, compliments of Wilma's little green digital flash camera, as she excitedly snapped ten to thirty pictures of Kinky and me, as we sat down at the table to join them. I knew it was going to be a long breakfast, even though I loved these nice people, who were really big fans of ours.

Kinky and I sat next to each other—across the table from Fred, Wilma and Pebbles. Kinky and I ordered coffees. Normally, I only drink decaffeinated coffee, but this morning I knew I needed all of the help I could get, as Wilma continuously took non-stop pictures of us, causing me to go temporarily blind for a couple of minutes, by the flashing light that was less than two feet away from my face.

When our breakfasts were served, Wilma set aside her little green camera, so she could eat her omelet. As usual, at our bi-monthly breakfasts with them, the conversation was strange or should I say really weird. This morning, I felt like I was an actress, that wasn't going to get paid, starring in a really low budget movie—that thankfully would never air!

While Fred talked to Kinky about the Beatles' White Album, and Paul McCartney, Wilma stared dreamily at Kink, and she forgot to eat her breakfast! While Pebbles kept nodding her head up and down, and repeating over and over again, how much she loved Jimi Hendrix—followed by cupping her hands together, and praying for Jimi out loud. Then she would do it all over again.

Kinky handled it really well, and I tried to, even though I kept bursting out with laughter, which would then cause Kinky to start laughing, as Wilma flashed her camera at us, two feet away—non-stop!

I could just picture it, later today, as Wilma showed off her pictures of us, to her friends. "And, here's Kinky and Cousin Nancy sitting down. Here's one of them just about to sit down in their chairs. Here's one of Kinky blinking his eyes. And, here's a picture of Cousin Nancy swallowing her coffee. No, Cousin Nancy's eyes are not red. They are blue..."

An hour later, our breakfast ended with hugs, more hugs, and very hearty handshakes, out in the parking lot, with even more pictures being takin'. After we said goodbye to these really sweet, nice people, Kinky and I jumped into Mr. Green Jeans and drove away.

Kinky needed to go by Herring Printing to talk to Joe Herring about his upcoming self- published book, so I walked two blocks down the street, to Wolfmueller's Books, with hopes of visiting with Sandy and Jon.

Y'all have a great evening!

To Be Continued....(Sorry Mari! It's after ten o'clock, and trust me, I need my beauty sleep—if that is even possible for a fifty-seven year old woman.)

Nancy, I'm sitting here in the middle of nowhere at 12:21am and I am laughing out loud. Too funny! There are damn bears out here, and this is a good icebreaker. Prince took off, par usual, earlier today and I was really sweating it. He came back unscathed, but I was terrified because I saw a HUGE bear at the dump on Monday night, and a bear ate my neighbour's 48 cobs of corn last night... Ontario, Yours to Discover LOL!

Anyhow, hang in there. Your snakes, scorpions and spiders in TX are sounding downright tame these days LOL

Good morning, Fay! I wish you could of been there. It sounds like you are trying to grin and bear it up there. hugs to you and Kris.
P.S. Not to be corny, but how come your neighbor had 48 cobs of corn?
